Burgess fixed it with Rossi's endorsement via very willing Yamaha engineers. They swallowed their pride and developed it exactly as the super duo asked, and reaped the rewards...

Right but look at some of the mortals. Checha went backwards, no one else even showed up until edwards got there, and he was probably just happy to be away from playing marshmellow on the rs3. I'm not even counting max who took a credible 2nd on his one year with the bike.

Even then, can we really credit vr for the crossplane layout if jb made the suggestion from things he learned crewing for doohan? Things that make you go hmm

I certainly would not credit Rossi for the cross plane. The feedback that inspired Burgess to seek a different solution from Yamaha definitely, and of course he did ride the thing they built.

Heh to hear some of his fans on crash he dug raw minerals from the earth and forged it into a championship winning bike with his bare hands. Just no reasoning with those people.

I can't wait to see him go to superbikes. You know, where actual racing occurs I'll bet he gets a ben spies style "welcome to sbk mate" bump off track on turn one

Rossi knows the score in WSBK. He'll go to F1 or Rally when his Duc contract is over...

I'd say it was a combination of both. A bit of development and a crapload of skill resulted in those first couple of titles. Continued development over the years resulted in Yamaha taking several constructor's championships.

Ahh but if he wasn't in the picture that bike could have taken the title in its first year...

Maybe so... But would Max have been inspired to ride so hard if Vale wasn't bugging the shit out of him?
