I am sure I can discourage him from doing that

Actualy medical field is always a good choice between nursing and a midlevel practicioner. There is plenty of work to be had and can make a good living.

its 4 years of medical school and another 4 years of residency then you sit in a dark room for the rest of your career.

nuclear med is where its at. We had a pt who needed a stat vq scan at 4amand had to call in the tech. He was actualy happy to be called for the OT he was getting. If all you do are X-rays the market may be tight, but if you can do CT and MRI's you have a lot of opportunity. I a mnot sure of the market for ultrasound techs. I know its being used much more, but many more docs and even PA's are becomming proficient at using it.

Smiley,

My brother-in-law is a commercial loan officer with a bank in Joplin.

I can check with him and see if they have any openings.

We've got a couple ultrasound techs at the hospital. So far, I haven't seen it being handled by anyone but them. I think it might be a certification thing though. I need to check the wording of it, but I think, like Radiology, you need to be state certified to do the job, so unless a nurse, doc, or PA is holding the cert, it's up to the ultrasound people to do the job. The EKG people though, they're quickly being replaced by nurses and PA's who do that shit and don't want to wait around for them to mosey into the ER on their own schedule.
