Default Sparticus: Blood and Sand

Ok just watched the first episode and I'm thoroughly impressed. If you like Sex and violence then this is for you.

First off it is the equivalent of softcore porn, the only scenes in the entire hour without naked women and bouncing titties is the fight scenes, and even some of them have naked women in the background. That being said, there is a story, and the first episode more than kept my attention. In fact the story was downright intruiging.

Then there was the violence. Think of 300, only without the same large budget. The blood squirts and shoots everywhere, but it is done in a dramatic fashion not meant to be realistic, and after big blood scenes will literally cover the entire scene, or they will stop the motion of the charachters and the blood will continue squirting at real time speed. Sounds bad right? Not really while you can tell the budget wasn't there like it is in 300 it is done pretty damn good.

Here is a promo video

Sweet. We DVR'd it; previews looked a lot like HBO's 'Rome,' which was excellent, very well done - and oodles of gratuitous sex and violence.

I was kind of skeptical, and still am a little. The Sparticus story is so well known and has been told so many times, it's kind of like the Titanic story. You know it's a tragic tale, and what are they going to change/add to make it interesting?

One big change so far is that his wife was only taken captive (so far), not died that we know of, and they had no kids. That at least added a little interest. When I saw no kid, I wasn't sure how far they would go before her death, and when we didn't see her die, it leaves open the possibility that she will reappear later as someone's slave. And maybe they will turn her into the woman he historically hooks up with later.

The period in which this originally took place is my favorite in Roman history (the Republic is way more interesting than the Empire), so I will probably keep watching it to see what they do with it.

Again I think it waas the budget they had to work with, instead of spending a whole bunch of money on prothsteics and blood packs and squirters and stuff tehy just ignored the blood all together and added it in post in CGI, probably way cheaper to do big squirts everywhere than trying to model it realistically

I dunno, in my uneducated opinion it looks like they spent a lot of money on it.......Huge cast, all the extras for the crowds, all their costumes, all the sets.....
