I agree.

I thought he was funny before but I have been really impressed with the "moderated" posts.

That said, I know way too many people here IRL and have been a part of this community (the CF refugee half) for waaaaaaay too long to go somewhere else. And I'm not even saying there's a better alternative, because this is probably the best MC forum on the net. Still, too much parenting.

I understand that blatant flaming should be moderated....outside of that....nah.
I don't really see overmoderation or, outside of this incident and a few religious threads, much moderation at all. For the religious threads I understand. They had developed a nasty habit of turning in to nothing but "blatant flaming". Get a page or two in and the thread would deteriorate in to the same individuals calling each others beliefs stupid. I don't care about that but it also had a nasty habit of carrying over to other threads which got annoying pretty damn quick. Not that anyone cares, but I think the moderation on here is fine.

I think I'm very much in the minority of people who don't like some of the mod enforcement, so my opinion pretty much means dick anyway. But I do think Trip does a smash-up job with TWF. I wasn't kidding when I said the best on the 'net.

IF it was my forum, the only thing I would do differently is allow the War Room to be a Free Speech zone, with no tolerance for direct name calling or flaming.

"You're a fucktard." or "Your mother is a fucktard" would result in an infraction but "Your beliefs will land you in hell" would be fair game.

From what I saw the religious threads were invariably getting "You are a fucking idiot" posts. If I ran the site and I had to babysit every religious thread because a few people insisted on acting like children every time the topic came up I would get pretty sick of it too. For me the time required would quickly outweigh the free speech ideal.

What I would eventually like to do is have a separate subforum site, where you click a link and go to this completely separated forum where anything goes (well except nudity, sorry I am don't want to have the responsibility of that, you guys know where to go to get that shit anyway.) Basically if you click the link and go there, don't come whine to me or the mods. It's your own fucking fault. I tried that with the war room, but it's too connected into the TWFix system, I want it more separated.

But see that would require more moderation. I personally have been called every name under the sun on this board, often by the mods themselves, without any penalties being assessed to the name caller. Whether or not I deserved the handle being used is another discussion entirely ...

I think that is an idea that works well in theory but not in reality.

Like goof mentioned, it has a habit of carrying over into other parts of the board.

Besides that what is the point? To exchange ideas? To convince the "other side"? Usually when religion is concerned, the mind is made up before the discussion begins.

For me personally its all about open debate. I really enjoy disagreeing, and the forum is a way to get it all out of my system before wifey gets home. But, I'm capable of resisting the urge to flame....unless flamed first.

Rarely does someone's mind change about a subject as a result of debate, that's not the point. But forum debates over the years have opened my eyes to some things.

I agree with you 100%.

The problem is when person A and person B disagree vehemently, it has a way of infecting their posts in other areas.

Ex:
Person A: "I like ham & swiss but can't decide between yellow mustard or deli style. What do you recommend?"

Person B: "You're a fucking idiot. Why don't you ask your "God" which mustard you should use you fucking sheep. BAAAHHHH!!!"

Or vice-versa.
