He is not arguing consequences of the law, rather the baselessness of the law so I don't know why you keep bringing this up.

Prisions were made in large numbers for the sole purpose of creating a transfer of wealth from the taxpaper to a select group of individuals who could profit from it.. You stir propaganda to the masses (show black people with guns with a bag of weed, broken households, fighting etc.), contribute heavily to the "tuff on crime" lawmakers and hope that the masses vote for these lawmakers so they can legislate filling up your hotels. Then more money to be made in the judicial system/ law enforcement arena.

Now do this with...the war on terror, the war on global warming...the war on healthcare...the war on cap and trade...See a pattern? It's about money, not about rehabilitation or stopping drug usage.

If everyone "obeyed" the law and stopped doing drugs illegally, the transfer of wealth would just move to something else as long as they could get the masses behind it using propaganda...i.e. speeding in excess of 90mph...JAIL TIME!!

Excellent post, and spot on.

One of the biggest reasons pot is still illegal, is the boom of the private prison industry (which itself use to be illegal) since the mid-eighties.

For those of you unaware of how this works, I suggest reading this:

And it's so bloody transparent, that I really can't understand how my fellow countrymen can be suckered into letting our current Conservative government move in that direction.

Avatard seems to be suggesting that drug offenders should be exempt from at least some (if not all) of the consequences of breaking the law, because he thinks the law is unjust. That's why it keeps coming up.

Great post outlining the ridiculousness of the war on drugs, but you're preaching to the choir. Nobody has argued that the drug laws or prison system are just or fair. The system is obviously broken, but that doesn't mean you can just ignore it while you work to fix it.

Geez, your dumb runs deep.

There, I called you dumb. You earned it...but you're not alone...
Why not? if the law is absurd, so should the punishment be.

Take a look at who is running the Justice department and most of of the local PD's and prosecutor's offices, the same Free Love, If it Feels Good Do it, pot smoking hippies of the 60's

Some times a post shines through the murky vapors of cyber space, like a brilliant star, guiding the reader to a higher understanding of the topic at hand.

This is not one of those times.
