Depends on why you are going.

If you are going to gamble, then no, there is no reason to go outside.

If you are going to be a tourist and you are broke, then you will go outside quite a bit. The free shows are outside.

I was outside a lot the few times I went there.

If you are going to be a tourist and you have money to spend, then no, you don't have to go outside.

So basically, have money to burn and you won't have to worry about the temps outside.

There are lots of free shows inside, like the tigers at MGM.

I rarely step outside unless I've brought my dirt bike and want to explore the surroundings. Jeep tours are pretty fun.

Unless you like repetitive diving, I wouldn't go see O, but Ka is awesome and so is Zumanity (to go see with the wife, not the kids!). There is a locals discount going on until feb for the cirque shows so let me know if want me to help you get tickets. Its buy one get the other at $25 and a gift certificate to the gift shop.

Let me know when you will be in town, maybe we can go meet up for a bit.

And its not bitter cold, but it does get chilly and windy. Bring lots of lotion and chapstick.

I was there a couple of years ago in January, and it was like the coldest winter in a billion years. The fountain outside the Tuscany, where we were staying, was frozen. And it was very windy. But that's not the norm so....

I did mineral studies on almost every mountain range in eastern Nevada. Many of those roads are deserted. Valley of Fire State Park has interesting geology and twisty roads. Highway 93 up to Ely is interesting, especially the brothels in Ely. Or so I've heard.
