I've already found another computer for cheap and it's on it's way. If the hard drive is the only thing wrong with the other one, then I'll have 3 computers: one for each of us.

Could be the hard drive, or it could be the capacitors on the main board, if the system is 4-8 years old. That was a bad time for those components (long story involving industrial espionage). If it's the caps, then pitch it.
