Disclaimer:I have a very jaded view as I work in a corrections setting.
RO as a rule work in the cases of where the individual in question is still using a pro social value system. IE thy basically are law abiding and fear going to jail. Or if they fear they have something to lose. Those who have done time, usually have figured out that going to jail is not as frightening as it one was ( in far to many case I see going to jail or prison improves the over all quality of their lives) So the RO has little or no deterrent value.
The other issue to remember is that an RO can be acted upon only after it has been violated. So if you get one remember the police can not act until it has been violated and I would recommend strongly that You take what ever steps you would take to protect yourself if it wasn't there. If there is documented violations (in most states it takes 2 or 3 violations where no bodily injury is involved before a judge is going jail someone less if injury is present)
In all cases advocate and protect yourself. The police are a reactive organisation who can only respond once the law has been broken. The longest and most important 20 minutes of most people lives are the time between when they dial 911 and the time the police arrive. Protect yourself!
