Not everyone is bright enough to not get in a car with a drunk person, especially when they were probably intoxicated themselves.

Nice try, Laura came from very well connected family in Texas. That police report said what ever her dad wanted.
Lets face it, Ted could have stayed even if he was drunk, police report would say what ever he wanted.
My guess he panicked took off with out thinking.
