The study used only instrumental music, showing that voices aren't necessary to produce the dopamine response, Salimpoor said. It will take further work to study how voices might contribute to the pleasure effect, she said.
I think this is an apropos assessment - even in music with vocals, it's the climaxes in the music, not so much the verbage, that can give me chills or a thrill. I still get goosebumps when I hear Mozart's Clarinet Concerto or Holst's Mars. But I can get the same feeling from Muse, or Tool, etc...

Funny story...

I read this article before leaving for work this morning. On my way to work, the local classic rock radio station had a contest about this very study. Because of this link, I'm going to the Spurs/Raptors game for free next week.

I haven't been to an NBA game in close to ten years, and lost all touch with the game about four years ago when I first moved out of the US. Now that I'm back, though, I figure I'll go to a game if it's free.

Besides, as a 6'6" athletic white guy, I'm obligated to do something basketball-related every now and then. This counts, right?
