What I got from it, was that the cure for AIDS, may eventually be derived from an origami based version of Tetris.

Don't forget, in your analogy nobody would know what "winning" Tetris actually looks like.

Where the article breaks down for me is that nobody has been able to successfully model this protein before, but these gamers using this program were able to do so. The gap the article fails to bridge for me is how this model is determined to be accurate.

It's not accurate yet, (maybe never).

Hence the phrase, "may eventually be derived". It's just a different way of looking at a problem.

Computers, for all their benefits, can't match the creativity of a determined stoner-nerd, as far as epiphanies are concerned.
