My computers will auto-switch to work with either a crossover or regular cable. I doubt the xbox does, but you never know.

It does.. I've been using the same cable since I've had the xbox. I've just never noticed the label on it. My roomie "liberated" from his work. It does go through a router though, maybe the router switched it?

Karl, I'm using a PC.

Most new routers do autoswitch for a cross over cable so it's not a big deal if you use it. IF you ever want to connect 2 pc's directly to each other, you HAVE to have a cross over.

The standard color sequence left to right is white/orange, orange, white/green, blue, white/blue green, white/brown, brown. The crossover end will swap the white/blue and white/green... if they haven't changed the wiring sequences since I did it 10+ yrs ago. That's for a standard CAT5 cable.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having odd connection problems with my xbox (360), too.

If I run a cable directly from the xbox to the router, it works just fine. I've also got a cable that plugs into the router on one end, and ends in a wall socket in another room on the other end. When I plug the xbox into that wall socket, I get nothing. My laptop works just fine when plugged into the wall socket. It's weird, I've tried multiple cables of each type (standard and crossover), and nothing seems to make a difference.

I switched to a new cable, and my lag issues all but disappeared..
