i agree with you ebbs, to a certain extent-but i believe that all that stuff was started to gain some recognition in the first place. if you see a romantic comedy, drama, whatever, with two blacks as the main stars, its automatically a "black" movie, and instantly harder for it to be credible, whether its good or bad. black history month...well thats a no brainer, dont see how thats seperation or segregation, its just trying to bring to light the stuff the history books "accidently" omitted.
the game really seems to me to highlight the history of the colleges-which i believe were started/founded because blacks werent readily admitted to college, when and if they had the means to get there. as far as i know, u can be any race and go to one of those schools. you've mentioned this once or twice before, and id be more than willing to discuss it in deeper detail if you want Quote:
sweet, the new racism is cool

As far as this game goes, and BET, and several magazines... they're not targeting an audience by subject matter... but by race. For this game I understand... Grambling gets over looked in NCAA... but so does North Dakota State. they play in a lower division (college football championship Subdivision FCS). one that just doesn't have a HUGE NATIONAL fan base, like most in the Football Bowl Subdivision do.... the market for this game is purely race driven. I think it's a far stretch to say this game was created to highlight the history of these schools. yeah they may have little snippets of facts about the schools like NCAA 09 does... but with the two main parts of the game being football and a drum line competition I can't see it being all that informative or enlightening about the history. As for the black movie awards... I can understand what you mean by the movie gets the "black movie" label if it has two black lead stars. but then why not just create a movie awards that unbiased? why does it only include the black movies? your fighting injustice with segregation. know what I mean? Don't get me wrong... I think there is still a very large injustice for the black community... along with many, many other minorities... but these just perpetuate the division of the communities. I want nothing to do with you and your back door |

since we agree on blk history month, i'll skip to the movies. i understand what you mean, it should be an unbiased movie awards. and it should be called the oscars lol. there shouldnt be a need for a black movie awards, but since there is(nowhere near as much as there used to be a need for it, but still) i dont see a need for it to be unbiased. the whole point is to bring to light black actors and actresses that are otherwise overlooked. theres a latino movie awards as well. makes perfect sense, except for the fact that there shouldnt be a need for it. as far as the magazines, products, etc-they arent marketed to race as much as they are marketed to a demographic. theres a bunch of whites , hispanics, etc etc that read XXL, the source, rides....but ebony, jet, and a few others that are marketed to black women because u rarely if ever saw a black face in vogue magazine or whatever chicks read back then. of course women want to see women that look like them, so someone saw that and made some money off it. thats a bit of a tangent-but basically i dont see it as fighting an injustice with segregation, although i can easily see how it can be viewed in that light-i see it more like they're sayin look at us, we're the same as you when you get down to it, so dont look down at us. atleast in the beginning. now the only color is money. market black stuff to blacks, and the money u save by not trying to get the crossover effect turns into profit. could even be the same product-car commercials are a bitch, same car, but in a "black" setting, or a "white" setting, depending on what channel u see it on. also-its bet. therefore any award show they do is black, its in the freakin title lol, black entertainment television-they have white actors/actresses/artists on there, hispanics, etc. its just predominently black, like the country music awards are predominently white. just a dif name. but when u get down to it, i think vh1, mtv, cmt, and bet are all on the same team when it comes to ownership anyway

oh most definatly... I agree that you'll see this issue on both sides... it's not just the black community separating themselsves... but it seems counter productive to what was being preached in the civil rights movement.
and ok... on the game I can see your point about the history between schools... not history of the schools... still not completely sold on it though. and yes I can completely understand market it to your intended audence... and I guess I shouldn't really blame a community for the marketing campaign of a couple magizines and TV channels/shows... but again... it's you'd think after fighting so hard for civil rights, they'd not want to segregate themselves. it just breeds ignorance and intollerance. |
