I don't get how less leverage on your brakes is better. I have to rebuild my front brake master cylinder today...and how I found out was when I squeezed my lever (in towards the bike with 2 fingers) my bike did not stop. I had to shift my fingers to the end of the lever to get my brakes to work.

Not really sure what would have happened if I did not have more lever there.
You would have noticed sooner?

you don't need your full hand to lock up the brakes on my old ZZR or my RR... I could make the rear tire come up with just two fingers... even before my SS lines. using two fingers helped me modulate the throttle smoother... while covering the break for those OH SHIT moments when the soccer mom to your right decides she needs to take an immediate left.

Shorty levers aren't for everyone... some people have more strength in their grip... (cue jokes about being single )

another reason for me... was my clutch lever would make contact with my grip when it was pulled fully. since I only used two fingers this crushed my others... I've tried just pulling until the motor revs freely... but as much light to light traffic I have in my commute... it's much harder to hold a lever at 60% than at 100%... so I went with the Shorties... but really... even those are a bit long in that example... still wanting to crush my ring finger... so I tend to use a full grip (my ring and pinky are attached by a bridge on my glove)

you would have used your foot, the shock from my most recent off snapped the plastic elbow that delivers fluid from the reservoir to the front master cylinder. didnt even notice till i tried using the front brake the first time riding home and my hand got covered in dot3.

It isn't, he's just too cheap to buy shorties

Either that or he crashed and broke it and is too lazy to buy a used one for $20-30 off Ebay.

Poking around, doing research I found this:
Moto World Online has ASVs for $205 (both levers).

Rear brake on my bike don't really do anything...except turn on my brake light which I learned today that my front brake does not do...again.
