With the G20 coming, this has people flipping out
Hunt continues for ammonium nitrate buyer
Chemical fertilizer a potential ingredient in bomb-making Police in southern Ontario were asking for the public's help Wednesday as they continued to search for a man who bought 1,625 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, a chemical fertilizer that can be used as a key ingredient in bomb-making. The RCMP have confirmed the man purchased 65 25-kilogram bags of the fertilizer on May 26 at a store in Lincoln, Ont., near St. Catharines in the Niagara region. Niagara Regional Police were meeting with the RCMP on Wednesday morning to share information about the case. Investigators say the man may be a local farmer, and the United Farmers' Union says the amount of ammonium nitrate he purchased would not even fill a fertilizer spreader. Still, police are keen to find the buyer because it appears proper procedures were not followed in the sale. They say the farm supplier, Vineland Growers' Co-operative Ltd., did not get the man's identification. The man who bought the ammonium nitrate "gave staff the impression he was a regular customer," but they later discovered that was not the case, Niagara Regional Police said. Buyer had minivan and flatbed trailer The man is described as having a short, stocky build and is about 50 to 60 years old, possibly of European descent. He is missing fingers on his right hand and walks with a slight limp. He left the store pulling a flatbed trailer with an older model maroon or red minivan, police say. Police are asking people who have any further information to call them at 905-688-4111 ext. 4208 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). The ammonium nitrate purchase comes as police and the military begin tightening security because of the upcoming G8 and G20 summits in Huntsville, Ont., and in Toronto. Amendments to Canada's Explosives Act passed in 2008 require a vendor of ammonium nitrate to record the purchases and who bought the fertilizer, and to alert police if they think there is something suspicious about a purchase. U.S. bomber Timothy McVeigh used ammonium nitrate to blow up a government building in Oklahoma City in 1995 and kill 168 people. When an extremist group allied with al-Qaeda set off explosives in Bali's nightclub district in 2002, the main bomb was made with ammonium nitrate. So I can't buy Sudafed without basically signing my life away but this guy can buy 1600 kg of something that can be used to make explosives and nobody blinks until after? Nice.

Missing fingers and a limp could mean a farming accident. They could also mean a bomb making accident. I hope it turns out to be the former.

You can still get the old sudafed but (at least here) you need to give them your license number and stuff and if you buy more than 2 boxes in a certain period of time you get a nice visit from the DEA
