HID owners step in side
I just picked up some slim ballast 8,000k HIDs for my 01 gixxer 750 and I am wondering where I can put the ballasts. People who have done this on a motorcycle where did you put your ballasts and pics of the install would be greatly appreciated. How hot does the ballasts get and does it get hot enough to melt the plastic fairings on the bike if they get mounted close to them.

all depends on how long the leads to the ballasts are... I've seen some that were like 6'... Tigger said his was like 10-12"...
after that... depends on your bike... on mine they'er going in my tail... or if they won't fit they'll be attached inside my front fairing under the intake track. post up some pics of your bike... and we can thow up some ideas... wonder if anyone has a 01' gixxer here... doubt any will have HID |

Don't know about your bike, but there's a little space behind the headlight and in front of the gauges that might work. Or in the uppers at the turn signals. Of course, the older GSXRs had a massive underseat area didn't they? Put it in there.

Mine are heavy duty velcroed to the frame under the side fairing.

I mounted mine behind the windscreen on the R1. With the dark smoke screen, you can't see them at all. If you look halfway down this page, you will see an example. It's much easier to mount them with the slim ballasts though, which is what I have.

My ballasts are freakin huge and heavy bastards. Mine are tucked up under the side fairings. I don't like them there, but I'm not sure if they will fit under the windscreen or not.
I am constantly having a problem with the left side not firing on upon start. Sometimes I have to restart the bike, or unplug then replug the ballasts. Its a freakin PITA. Seems like every 10 or 15 times I start my bike I have a problem with it. Good job on the GSXR install though. Last edited by R1up0n1; 06-16-2008 at 09:41 PM.. |
