The G19 because again it's a 9mm and ammo should be plentifull.
I've never had any issue getting 7.62 anywhere.

Good call on the 9mm. That's why I like it as a handgun round- ammo is plentiful and reasonably cheap, and you can get some decent defensive rounds for it. Still, I think there are a lot better handguns out there than the G19 (or Glock anything, for that matter).

That depends greatly on what type of rounds you need.
Lately it's gotten difficult finding anything other than FMJ ammo around here (at least for any reasonable price) and I can't shoot FMJ's at my range of choice.
That's not saying Russian 5.56 is any easier... but you know what I mean.

I see. I've always been fine with FMJs in a rifle like that, but have heard of some ranges not allowing it. I have to be honest, if the range isn't safe for FMJ ammo, I would likely have serious concerns about their setup anyway. It's never really been an issue for me because I spend very little time at actual ranges. Having lots of open desert is nice sometimes.

I'd like to buy some cheap 7.62 for plinking with my .308, but I heard that the 7.62 military surplus rounds are not good for .308 Win rifles even though a .308 is = 7.62mm.

Anyone know if this is true.

There are three 7.62 rounds. 7.62x.51 and 7.62x.39 and 7.62x.54

7.62x.51 is a .308 winchester, 7.62x.54 is a thirty odd six

Yes but a 7.62 x 51 is not exactly the same as a .308 from some of the gun forums I've been on. I've heard that damage could be done to your rifle using the surplus 7.62.x 51 rounds in a .308 rifle. Is this in fact true or is it safe to use them?

I've never seen surplus 7.62 x 51. I've seen lots of 7.62 x 39, which is what the AK shoots.

They have them here. In white unmarked boxes. Usually in boxes off 100+.
