They're going to naturally use more data to provide more content. The browsers will be able to pull higher quality data from web sites. General use of apps that work better by being able to stream more data will go up. As the technology becomes more widespread, it's just going to lead to higher data use. If I used something like Pandora or Netflix, it would take a minimal amount of time to blow through a capped data plan.
Didn't think of it that way. Glad my boss pays for my data. I wont have LTE for at least 3 yrs so I'm gonna go with the 3gb plan.

This sucks. We still dont have 4G in my area, although I was able to get it for about an hour on Monday morning, Im guessing Verizon was doing some kind of test. I use a little under 2GB/month on 3G but when Im in an area that has LTE I go through data a lot more quickly and would easily pass the cap.

I have a grandfathered 4G unlimited plan right now and if they try to force me into a tiered plan at my next upgrade Ill just buy my next phone without a contract. If they still try to eliminate my plan Ill probably jump ship to a carrier that still has unlimited, if there is one, or just downgrade to a dumb phone that doesnt need much data still on another carrier.

Ive had the same Verizon account since 2002 but I refuse to pay their ridiculous prices for data.

That buying a new phone and avoiding the contract sounds all well and good, but you pay a shitload more for the phone AND I'm sure there will be some additional throttling... IMHO, I doubt that will work out very well.

They are actually looking to reduce subsidizing phones or eliminate it like Europe does. Buying off contract pricing may be the way of the future here. You pay pretty much full price for phones in Europe, but you aren't contract locked like you are here. Verizon and AT&T are cumming themselves about going to this type of setup too.

Theyre already phasing out the early upgrade programs too. If a badass new phone comes out I dont mind paying full price for it if Im a long way from my upgrade date.

On a positive note, Comcast has decided to get rid of their data cap. http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell...ix-complaints/

Theirs was a "soft" cap, meaning going over $250 GB didnt automaticaly result in throttleing or extra charges but I think its a move in the right direction.

Ok, great, but in your scenario to beat the system, I don't think it's going to work out very well for you.

I already buy off contract and sell before the phone gets too old. I don't tend to lose all that much going from phone to phone. Unlocked phone market is pretty easy to work.

You stay unlimited and hope your phone stays working because they force you to upgrade if you get a 4g phone. Just like you can't a smartphone without a data plan.
