the new ones have better HP and mileage figures. I can cruise 80 MPH down a freeway easily. They don't have the grunt of the straight 6 4.0 though. given what I usualyy use it for that is ok. It has been covered in mud a time or two though.

Nice looking rig. And the average person isn't buying a jeep as a commuter, they buy them for a toy

My 4.0 inline six in my former Cherokee got about 16 1/2 in town and 20 on the road.

My 3.7 V-6 in my current Liberty gets a little better but not by much. My Liberty does weigh a bit more than my Cherokee did and has a better ride though.

yeah it started out that way, until the mileage started racking up on my truck. now it does most of the commute duty.
