I'm a former mechanic on 135 aircraft in the USAF. After five years of that I cross-trained, now I'm a Unit Education and Training Manager. I oversee upgrade, qualification and on-th-job training for all permanent party personnel at the group level. I administer the CDC program as well as inspect and provide guidance for paper-based and automated training records. I also oversee the survey program. It's a desk job and not a glamorous one. But the lifestyle is good and I don't have to be away from my family anymore. Still, I miss the flightline. I'm still not sure if I'll go back or not, my job allows me a lot of freedom and it's a lot more responsibility but it's not very rewarding. OTOH, being deployed or TDY 200+ days a year isn't really condusive to family life and I don't want to spend that much time away from my son. We'll see.
