Default [PICS] Quick fixes never seem to be quick fixes...

In case you have not noticed...I take a lot of pictures...and I like to share.

When I bought my bike it had already been dropped once or twice or maybe more...which is what I wanted. So the right side case cover was all bashed up and welded shut...

Unfortunately there was still a tiny leak. It was not bad. After an hour ride there would just be a few little drops on my boot. But I am planning on going to a track day within the next couple months and I did not want the tech check guys to boot me because of the minor leak.

So I ordered the parts I needed thinking it was all I needed...

Last weekend I finally open up the packaging and I find I still need two more parts. Go to the bike shop but of course they only have one of the two parts so I have to wait a few more days to get my bike put back together.

So Wednesday I get the part...I read on an FZR forum that the best way to get the bearing into the cover was to put one in the oven and one in there freezer.

Of course I took pics...

Bearing in the freezer...

Cover in the oven...

And finally everything is ready to go back on...

TADA...pretty...

Great science lesson right there in expanding/contracting metals. Looks awesome.

Why does your case cover have a bearing pressed into it? That's odd.

Yes the freezer trick for bearings is the way to do it

The shaft coming from the starter would be cantilevered so the bearing supports the other end.

When I was a wee lad, I used the oven to dry fouled 2-stroke plugs... When the parental units were out. It left a sent I enjoyed but they did not. Saved my from bumming rides to the parts store... Man I'm glad I'm old as dirt now.
