Revving a loud exhaust bike only pisses people off that don't ride. I've always felt it's better to be a good steward of our hobby. Making people mad is one more person out to run us down or not look twice or not care when they don'.
If you really want to make sure that people know you're where you are prior to occupying your space, get yourself a 140db air horn. It's not obnoxious *all* the time, but you know what, when you need it, it's right there on your thumb. People will usually GTFO the way when they hear a horn that belongs on an 18 wheeler screaming at them. There are compact models available that will fit easily within the confines of a motorcycle.
